Facilities management at the strategic level... what's happening?

Facilities management is probably the oldest type of outsourcing in the business world.   Companies were outsourcing the management of their facilities many decades before mainframes were outsourced.  I am wondering what’s happening these days at the strategic level (CEO decision-level) with facilities management.  I have the impression that more and more companies are outsourcing the management of their facilities; a lot more than 5 or 10 years ago.  Or is there a trend to go back to facilities insourcing?  I don’t think so.   It would be interesting to hear some comments about it from someone highly involved in facilities outsourcing.

I am not involved in facilities management. But, I have few comments about this topic.

I think the facilities management outsourcing process is still in active position. I have seen many IT companies are outsourcing their facilities management such as printing, copying, vendor servies, office cleaning, shipping etc. They are also outsourcing the resources like hardware and software. They hire these resources based on project requirements from time to time.
