Inspite of low job opportunities, still it is very difficult to retain the best talent in the organization even after paying good. What may be other probable factors responsible for low retention?

Hi,

Iam Major M Rajendran Retired from the Indian defence forces and am into the IT industry and other manufacturing  industry   for the past 18 years having studied the nuances of the attrition and retention of employees.

Besides the pay which may be very good, the other factors that are ignored by the management of companies generally are:

1.Self respect of the individuals are not kept
2.They are treated as just workers for the salary they give.
3.The humane element of the people as a whole is not looked into alongside the job work ais concerned.
4. The performance appraisal are just based on the individual relationships with the bosess rather than their work generally
5. many promotions are not transparent.
6. Employees are not treated as human asset .
There are many morebut these are the most important what I feel personaly.

we are planning to have an org that is devoid of all this toa great extent in rpovide services to KPO or BPO based in near times to come.

Other probable factors for low retention or high turnover? I think it's the general working atmosphere. Even if you pay high, good employees will still seek other employers if the overall environment at work isn't good. What if you pay certain people high enough, but all the rest, you don't treat well or are not happy with what they are getting in exchange for their services? What if you pay certain people high wages, but you also treat them in such a way that every cent or penny you give them is something they owe you? What about stress levels? What if you pay them high salary and in return, expect them to work 25 hours a day?  I think people tend to stay longer if the case is average salary and good working atmosphere, than if the case is high salary and bad working atmosphere.

Reminds me of David Letterman pranks.  Every so often The Late Show team gets ppeloe usually in silly costumes to  invade  a nearby retail storefront, coffee shop, or restaurant.  Dave watches via remote cam and directs first one, then multiples of ppeloe into the establishment.  I've yet to see any managers not  get it.   Customers seem to enjoy it; occasionally one immediately recognizes what's going on and waves blindly out the window.  Free publicity on a huge scale and an unexpected chuckle what's not to love?  Silly Abercrombie and Fitch!
