On-Demand Webinar: The Disconnect: Buyers are From Mars and Vendors are from Venus

Although outsourcing has been a thriving, growth market for over 20 years, we are still seeing a recurring theme of the disconnected, even dysfunctional, relationship between outsourcing clients and providers. This large and growing trend is potentially the single most significant thing impeding ROI for both sides of the equation, particularly in the ITO space. There is a famous BB King song entitled "The Thrill is Gone". Is this what you are taking away from your monthly governance meetings?

This panel discussion of buyers and providers continues the debate started at our NYC Road Show in June. We will candidly analyze the key factors contributing to this malaise and recommend practical remedies for those looking to get to a more productive place with their outsourcing partners.

Our panel of experts will identify global problems, probe systemic causes and draft specific solutions, including:

  • What problems are exclusive to the ITO buyer-provider relationship?
  • What quick fixes can I put in place today...and what answers are there for the long-run?
  • As technology matures and changes, how can the buyer-provider relationship keep pace?

Moderator: Frank Casale, Founder and CEO, The Outsourcing Institute

Panelists:
John Lalli, Chief Operating Officer, Blue Hill Data Services
Peter Messina, Senior VP & Operating Officer, Computer Alternative Processing Sites (CAPS), Inc.
Vishal Ahluwalia, Executive Director, Head Outsourcing/Off-shoring WMA, UBS
Joseph Rosenthal, Vice President, Global Infrastructure Services Technology Sourcing, Barclays Capital

Webinar On-Demand: Mid-Tier Outsourcing: Minefield or Greenfield?

ISG research shows that mid-size organizations are increasingly turning to outsourcing IT systems and business processes to reduce costs, increase organizational agility and focus on core competencies. In other words, they outsource for the same reasons that their larger, global business counterparts do.

As relative newcomers to the sourcing marketplace, mid-tier businesses can potentially benefit from the experiences of more mature sourcing organizations - by adopting established best practices, by leapfrogging to new technologies, and by avoiding mistakes of the past. That said, businesses with limited outsourcing experience often don't know what they don't know, and remain vulnerable to the pitfalls inherent in managing sourcing relationships.

This webinar will assess recent trends in the mid-tier sourcing marketplace. Specific topics addressed will include:

  • Basic considerations faced by buyer organizations with differing levels of outsourcing experience
  • Risks and opportunities around cloud, BPO and procurement
  • Emerging trends in the service provider landscape
  • Strategy options and key success factors

Deborah Card, Partner, ISG

Three Reasons to Consider a Near-Sourcing Strategy For Applications Development

Since the idea of outsourcing applications development became popular in the past 20 years, much of that activity has taken place in geographies such as India, the Middle East and even Russia. Three Ways to Reduce Operating Costs By Outsourcing Data Center Infrastructure

When organizations look to reduce costs by following an outsourcing strategy, it’s easy to think about reducing capital expenditures by avoiding purchases of hardware, software licenses and networking bandwidth. But IT executives and their finance colleagues often believe it’s even more important to use outsourcing to reduce operating expenses, because those costs usually recur and often increase over time even without increases in business activity. Three Things to Look For When Selecting a Data Center Infrastructure Service Provider

Data centers, long the hub of all IT activity in nearly all-sized organizations, have changed dramatically in recent years. “Big iron” has given way to tight clusters of open servers, and floor-to-ceiling racks of computer hardware have transitioned to blade servers, high-density disk arrays and low-profile network switches.

ITO, BPO ..... DIYO ??? Welcome to the New Reality of Do-It-Yourself Outsourcing

Written by: Frank Casale, Founder, CEO, The Outsourcing Institute There are some things in life where doing it yourself makes a lot of sense. You can cut your own lawn instead of hiring a landscaper, or change the oil in your car. Unlike tasks that require very specialized skills or that carry a huge price tag of failure - say, brain surgery - some activities are prime candidates for do-it-yourselfers. In fact, the DIY trend has made companies like Home Depot and Pep Boys very successful, because DIY transcends economic boom-and-bust cycles. But do-it-yourself outsourcing?

AN IMPENDING IT DISASTER… AND WHAT D’YOU MEAN “WE’RE NOT INSURED FOR IT”!?

The Contract You are an established, reputable corporation. A year ago your board decided to upgrade your existing computer systems by buying a 'unified package’, ‘lightly-customised’, from a ‘solution provider’. The new modified system was to be complete, installed and working, 3 months after the Contract Date. You identified and chose the package, and the ‘solution provider’, on the basis of a somewhat hurried selection process. You did always mean to go and visit some other reference sites, and actually see the software live in action, and talk to some other (satisfied) customers. But you were always much too busy. Just like you always intended to get your company’s end user staff members involved in the selection process. But didn’t. The same goes for your business managers’ preparing a full written Requirements Specification document defining in detail the business processes to be automated. Your usual corporate law firm took a ‘quick look’ at the Contract, at your request, and did not raise any major concerns. Published by: Dr Stephen Castell CITP, Chairman, CASTELL Consulting
