Outsourcing Topic: Outsourcing – How to Get Started
• What is your definition of outsourcing?
• What benefits can be gained?
• Where should one start if they haven't outsourced before? Avoiding the “ditch” – Making an Effective Transition to Outsourcing Our research shows that information technology (IT)
outsourcing is here to stay. During times of economic
prosperity, outsourcing can enable a company to focus
on core competencies, improve processes, and increase
flexibility. During an economic downturn, outsourcing can
help a company reduce costs, generate cash flow, and/or

multinational companies to gain an understanding of how they are evaluating the risks and benefits of business process
outsourcing. In particular, the goal of the survey was to see how these executives viewed BPO in the current post recessionary
economy, and whether they are taking a more value-based approach. Review this white paper by Forbes Insights in association with Infosys to learn more. Life & Pension BPO Competitive Overview Industry-specific BPO in the life insurance sector has maintained high levels of activity throughout 2009 and 2010. However, the capabilities of the vendors serving this market differ markedly both by geography and by life BPO market segment. NelsonHall’s Charles Jupiter provides a framework for assessing life BPO vendors’ capabilities to meet your needs. The State of Learning Business Process Outsourcing Learning BPO has been one of the slower HR outsourcing markets to recover during 2010, with learning budgets traditionally being slashed during difficult times. However, learning is a key factor in retention of high performers and critical to the future success of organizations and the market has now returned to growth. Learning BPO provides a mechanism for improving the effectiveness of training while also reducing the cost of delivery. The author of NelsonHall’s Learning BPO assessments, Gary Bragar, has extensive experience of HR outsourcing vendor management within AT&T. Platform F&A Outsourcing Platform-based F&A outsourcing is a much discussed topic at present but what is the reality? While a number of suppliers are offering platform-based multi-process F&A outsourcing to the mid-market, the principal progress in platform-based F&A outsourcing within multinationals lies in increasingly specialized support for single F&A process and sub-processes with perhaps surprisingly greatest adoption in areas such as expenses management and accounts payable. Developments in Finance & Accounting BPO Finance & accounting BPO continues to be one of the safest forms of BPO, combining relatively low levels of risk, with short transition times, and high return on investment, making the service one of the most acceptable to buyers in the current uncertain environment.
Ignore the hype around full-service platform BPO and you are on safe ground. Developments in HR Outsourcing The HR outsourcing market is back. Although several of the second-generation HR outsourcing vendors have now exited the market, multi-process HR outsourcing is re-emerging in hybrid form across a narrower range of outsourced services, RPO is growing strongly, and the benefits administration market is undergoing considerable M&A activity as vendors reposition for future growth. Developments in Customer Management Services The customer management services market is undergoing major change in the delivery mix fuelled by the continuing shift of customer service to the Philippines, growth in use of WAHA services, and the emergence of new channels such as webchat .
This presentation summarizes recent developments within customer management services, including current buyer pain points, buying trends, delivery trends, changes in the vendor landscape, and implications for service buyers. Renewed Enthusiasm for HR Outsourcing HR departments continue to be faced with a strong corporate requirement for cost cutting within HR administration combined with a need to improve their identification and retention of key personnel during unsettled times. This, together with a more realistic approach by suppliers, is leading to renewed interest in HR outsourcing in 2010. Application of Multi-Channel Customer Contact Organizations are increasingly faced with the dual challenge of enhancing customer service while reducing customer service cost. Moving to a multichannel environment is becoming a key tool in addressing this challenge and may have the added benefit of providing new approaches to cross-sell and up-sell. Developments in the Role & Application of BPO The current economic environment has fundamentally changed organizations requirements from sourcing, placing a much greater emphasis on certainty of the business case and speed of pay-back.
It has also had a significant impact on organizations attitudes towards the impact of outsourcing on customer experience, use of offshoring, and the role of technology within BPO. BPO Index: July 2010 Every quarter NelsonHall holds a “BPO Index” webcast to monitor developments in BPO contract activity. This presentation shows developments in the overall level of BPO contract activity, together with the emerging patterns of BPO contract activity by process, industry sector, and geography.
It also provides examples of significant developments in the BPO market that took place in Q2 2010. |
